The Heart Searcher
“…we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. (27) And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:26-27
Have you ever struggled when you pray? Have the words formed in you as they did in some of the disciples walking with Jesus when they said, “Lord, teach us to pray?” Have you ever struggled with what to express when you pray?
The Apostle Paul penned these verses with the express purpose of encouraging struggling believers to hang on to their faith in the midst of adversity. Within this encouragement we find the solution to one of our major weaknesses.
Who are we that we even have a right to approach our Holy God, trying to communicate the things that we, ourselves, do not even understand? Life is often confusing and frustrating. We constantly battles within ourselves with the war of good and evil. We want to do right and end up doing wrong and we become frustrated. We try and speak to God about it and the frustration grows as we see ourselves mirrored in darkness while approaching Him in His holy light.
But, the good news is that we have help. We all struggle with the battle, but God comes to the rescue. Within every covenant believer He has placed His Holy Spirit. It is He who searches among the confusion in our battle weary lives and He finds those things we wish to express back to the Father. All the while, the Father is searching the mind of the Spirit for He is eager to hear what we have to say.
Why would God go to all that trouble just to hear from us? Oh, the depth of how much He must love us to do such a thing. He wants to hear from us and He wants to know our hearts. Our lives are deceiving, but our hearts are always true. They tell the real story.
So, if you are struggling in your life, just know that all of the rest of us are in your same shape. No matter how we try and pass it off, we are still there. But the difference we have from those in the world is that the Holy Spirit of God dwells within us and He is constantly taking the message back to the Father. And, we must never forget that God is listening to our hearts.
