Personal Responsibility
We are living in a world where more and more people are moving away from personal responsibility. Listen carefully when people talk about things… especially things that went undone. “I can’t understand why they didn’t do something about that.” Or, you might hear, “I wish they would have had the heat on this morning.”
More and more we are learning to sit back and let someone else do the work while we keep ourselves free from blame if something goes wrong. As long as I stay out of it, they cannot blame me for the failure.
This argument is as old as man himself… When God confronted Adam in the garden after he ate the fruit, he blamed the woman. When God confronted the woman, she blamed the snake. And frankly, this problem has not progressed much since.
We are trying with all diligence to chart a course with the help and direction of God for this church and before any of that ever happens, one fact will be known. It is going to take every one of us to make it happen.
If you are not accustomed to digging in and getting involved in the works and actions of this congregation, it is now time to heed the call. We need you! We need every member here to hitch up to the wagon and help pull the load.
God can and will do great things with this church, but we must commit and hang with that commitment. We must take personal responsibility and stop waiting for someone else to get the job done. Get those ears open and listen. There will be a spot for everyone to serve. Let us change “They” to “We” and move ahead.
