Look At Me
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
We live in a world today where beauty is held in a very high place. Billions of dollars are spent every year by consumers trying to enhance beauty. Men and women alike are obsessed with “looking good”. Is there anything wrong with looking good? Certainly not! But as the wise have said, “Beauty is only skin deep.”
The Psalmist here knew and understood, as a matter of fact, “knew full well,” that there was something greater than beauty. Just look at yourself. Try for a moment to get past the wrinkled skin, the sagging lines, the big ears or nose, and see yourself as the creation of God. You and I are truly a piece of masterful work.
As science deepens and we are learning more and more about the intricate body God has created for us, we are amazed over and over again by its complexity. There are so many complex things in our bodies going on at all times. Some kick in when they need to and others work on a constant basis. We are truly a piece of work.
There are those who try and convince us that we evolved from some lower life form, but even then they ignore the fact that the lower life forms are fearfully and wonderfully made. I did not evolve, nor did you. We were created by the power and might of Almighty God and need no enhancement for Him to be pleased by what He sees.
Is it ok to try and enhance our beauty? Sure, God does not mind as long as we do not try and pass ourselves off as something we are not. Cosmetics do not make the heart beat or the mind work. God does that. Just look at yourself. Can you add a year or a moment to your life? God alone has that control.
Just look at yourself. You are special, for you are a creation of Almighty God! For that we give Him praise.
